This year, my class is participating in a mascot exchange project. Last week, we sent our ram mascot, Tennessee journal, Tennessee pencil, and a postcard across the Atlantic to John Clifford Primary School in Nottingham, England. Today, we received “Pride” the Lion, a pencil, journal, and a postcard from our partnering school. I am not sure who was more excited, the students or me. Getting a box that has “Royal Mail” on the top, pumps you up.
Throughout the year, the students will be taking Pride the Lion home with them. We are going to be journaling and taking pictures of Pride visiting different places in our community. On the other side of the world, our ram (they named him Vic) will be doing the same. At the end of the year we will send the journal and pictures back so we can read about the adventures. If you would like to watch Pride’s journey, you can visit our class wiki.

Today the students got to reap the rewards of a successful harvest. The garden season is the opposite of the school season so it can be tough to grow fruits and vegetables during the school year. It all starts the year before when the students plant the seeds in the spring. They have to water and care for plants until they leave for summer. During the summer months, my daughter and I water them. In the fall, the new students get to harvest the vegetables. Not much work for a plate full of food but in the spring, it starts all again. This year’s class will have to pay it forward by working hard in the spring so my next year’s class can also reap some rewards.

The Mystery State Skype Challenge got off to a fun start on Thursday. The students had to ask and answer questions about their state. Mrs. Hamman’s class did a marvelous job with their facts and made solving the mystery easy. After 10 interesting rounds, we uncovered the first state in our challenge, Arizona. Thank you Mrs. Hamman’s class for a wonderful first round and good luck with the rest of the challenge.
