One of my favorite teachers is one of the finalist for the ORAU $25,000 prize. Could you imagine winning that much money just for your classroom. It would be insane!!! This year ORAU is giving “the people” a vote to reward one of the 11 finalist a $1,000. I am very glad I entered last year because the videos are amazing. Check them out and VOTE FOR MRS. FULTZ!!!!!! Or the video you think is best or MRS. FULTZ!!!!

Over the school year, my class has become friends with an amazing class from the Philippines. Last week, we received letters and a Valentine card from them. Even though they are over 8,000 miles away, my students have made some pretty close friends. The craziest thing is we are doing it all “old-school” with paper and pencils. Don’t let the lack of technology stop you from making connections with the world!!

This Thursday, I got to visit an exceptional teacher and an exceptional class. Mrs. Fultz open her classroom doors so I could observed how her fifth graders go through a regular day. The morning started off with a hands-on geometry lesson where the students measured perimeter and area of triangles and quadrilaterals. At the end, the class showed me their musical video, Math Is Fun. In the video, the students act out the locations of the four quadrants with the help of some expert dance moves. After a quick class change, the students worked on their weekly reading activities. They also gave me a sneak peak of the video they entered in the ORAU Classroom Makeover contest. The video is amazing, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they won. Thank you Mrs. Fultz and students for being so welcoming and giving me enough ideas to last a year.
