The students and I made a spin-off of the popular AT&T commercials for our Open House. The parents got a chance to see their kids do a little acting while getting important information about the year.

In our second Mystery Skype Challenge, we faced off against Mrs. Porter 7th grade class from Carrollton City, Georgia. We had a little trouble in this one round. We asked them if they were a border state of Georgia. When they answered “No”, most of the students crossed Georgia off their maps (which they shouldn’t have). After guessing Virginia, the students looked again through their information and guessed Georgia. Even though we lost, it was a great learning experience. You can make sure we will be ready for that question next time!!

Our United Kingdom PenPal, Jordan Havell, was voted the Community Champions Award by The Royal Horticultural Society(RHS) for making it to level 5 of their benchmark scheme -their highest level. We have had the honor of writing to Jordan for the last three years and have enjoyed getting to know this extraordinary young man. We also want to wish him a big 12th birthday all the way from Knoxville, Tennessee in the United States! Way to go Jordan!!

In our first Mystery Skype Challenge, we found Mrs. Hamman’s third grade class at Four Peaks Elementary School in Apache Junction, Arizona. The class used these questions to help figure out their location:
Are you west of the Mississippi River?
Do you border an ocean?
Do you border Canada?
Do you border Mexico?
Are you close to the Colorado River?
Does your state start with the letter “A”?
